The Lemonheads' phylogeny from post-Hüsker Dü hard-core goon bikers to teenage heartthrobs is one of the strangest sagas in substitute medicine. Initially, the radical was a punk-pop third formed by leash adolescent Boston suburbanites, just over the years, the isthmus became a vehicle for Evan Dando. Blessed with safe looks and a warm, angelic voice, Dando became a teenager matinee idol in the former '90s, when Nirvana's achiever made alternative bands commercially feasible. While his saucer-eyed, catchy songs were now accessible, they tended to conceal the more than subverter nature of his lyrics, as well as his gift for offbeat covers and his devotion to country-rock father Gram Parsons. After development his signature blending of pop, punk, and country-rock on several independent records in the later '80s, Dando stirred the Lemonheads to Atlantic Records in 1990.
